Marijuana Bust!

Last Friday I had my first official drug bust...in my own classroom! This kid comes to class acting weird. He can't sit still, he keeps saying, "Ms....(big pause)...Ms......(big pause)" and can't finish his train of thought. Soon he puts bright yellow highlighter on his lips like lipstick. He can't sit still and keeps getting up to walk to the garbage can. I mean, this kid is a little weird anyway, but the little alert is going off in my head saying, "this kid is high as a kite." Debating what to do, since I can't say for certain that he's been puffin' the magic dragon, he gets up to go to the garbage can again. This time he's fiddling around in his pocket. I sneak up behind him just as he's pulling out the clear plastic baggie of top-grade mari-jane. BUSTED! I grab him by the arm and say, "Let's go!"

He's a big kid and could've bolted on me, but was way too high to think straight. He knew he was caught and started pulling the weed out of the bag and stuffing it IN his pocket...Idiot! Ironically, there were two girls in the office trying to describe this kid to the principal because he tried to sell pot to them earlier. Then here I come, toting this kid by the arm and they just look at the principal and point at the kid like, "that's him!"

Needless to say, I felt like I won one small battle for the War on Drugs and walked back to my classroom with a little pep in my step. Regardless, I hope I never have to do that again!

Wow Nicolette, you should've been a PoliceWoman! I'm glad you had the guts to grab him and send him where he needed to go. I can just see little ol' you, and a great big drugee in a fist-fight. You go girl!

That is awesome!! Sign you up for the next episode of COPS!! Bad boys, bad boys . . . You're my hero, I think it still takes guts even being a teacher to do your job. I love the story, you need to start writing for real - you have such a knack for it.

Way to go! That's awesome (that you caught him of course)! Never a dull moment as a teacher right? Okay, maybe there is, but still!
